I have used about 30 years ago a Jupiter 8 with a Kiev4 camera. It was
absolutely sharp as a razor, with a good contrast. It was an old camera at
that time, belonged to a my friend's father. When I started to earn my first
pocket money, I bought my first reflex (PETRI TTL screw mount 42x1) but
picures weren't so beautiful as Jupiter was used to produce. After a few
years a big surprise: my girfriend gifted me for my birthday a "new!" ZORKI
4K (it was 1977) with the Jupiter8. I started to test it shooting some
pictures, but it was a deep delusion: nothing to share with the legend that
I used with the Kiev.

Now I have just bought an old Kiev from Bielorussia on EBay but I haven't
tested yet the lenses, and I don't know if I already have in my hands the
Jupiter8 I have been looking for a long time.

Russian Surprise!

I gotta share this! The other day I decided to test some of the
Jupiter and Industar lenses I have on my various FEDs and Zorkies and
compare them against the Pentax lenses that I have and know are razor
sharp. Boy did I get a surprise.

I put the Zorkie-4K on a tripod and shot this silver building so I
could see center and edge sharpness and then shot the exact same with
with an Industar-26m, Industar-61 L/D and an F:2 JUpiter-8. I then
rolled the film back and reloaded it into my P-30t passing over the
exposed area and shot the building with 2 Pentax lenses. I had the
roll processed and enlarged to 6x8 prints and I thought the I-61L/D
would be the winner but much to my surprise it was the Jupiter-8!
With a 10X magnifier I could see no difference between the Pentax
50mm, the Pentax-A zoom at 50mm and the 52mm Jupiter. Next I'll
compare the Jupiter to the Helios-103 on my Kievs (I have both).

I was actually impressed with the KMZ lenses

funny about that. My Jupiter-8 is on a Zorki-4K and its great. I
have a Kiev-4AM arriving soon (eBay) with a J-8 on it and I'll have to
test it against the J-8 on my Zorki.

Cheers
