Dust didn't show up all that much in newspaper photos of the day. And
most of those old long overcoats would have had a full length "silk"
lining anyway.

Getting the shot was a much higher priority. Couldn't go back to the
editor and tell him you missed photographing an important event because
you didn't have any film holders loaded.

Instead of a press photographer, you'd be a used car salesman.
