Viewfinder washout

I wonder if there are experiences and opinions that might
indicate the best small camera for outdoor use? The first
criterion, IMHO, is that the monitor screen should be adequately
visible in bright ambient light. This has become important as
small cameras tend to be made without an optical viewfinder.
