MA2 Along the San Antonio River

The smoke around here had eased up, and the temperature was a bit more tolerable this morning, so I got out to fly my Mavic Air 2, and to share a little different part of California. This is along the San Antonio River, just North of where I live.

Then you will have the Feds to deal with as the FAA has jurisdiction of ALL U.S. airspace from ground level, and interfering with any aircraft manned, or unmanned is a federal offense.

....and I flew within the FAA sUAS regulations for recreational sUAS flights.

A lot easier out in the country though.

I'm fairly sure that *parking right on a road junction* here in the UK
would be a road traffic violation!

Oddly, I don't see that listed here!

(I very much enjoyed the trip! ;-) )

Interesting to see the landing. Does the drone automatically look down to
see the landing site?

I had moved the gimbal to look down to check on position, but there are some auto functions.

When you take off the drone uses GPS and ground mapping to establish its “Return to Home” (RTH) point. Then you have several options, either a full manual return to home & landing, an automatic RTH enabled from the controller & manual landing, an auto RTH & auto controlled landing. If the camera is aimed down for landing, it will rotate back to horizontal & level when close to the ground so that the lens is clear of the ground, and less likely to be damaged.

Then there are emergency responses, if for example there is a problem such as a loss of signal between the drone and controller where you can set up to auto RTH & land.

Another great video!

Will your MA2 make a GPS track as it flies?

A log of every flight is recorded and maintained. That includes a full GPS track. It can be helpful if for some reason your drone goes down, and you need to find it.

Anyway, here is the track of yesterday’s flight along the San Antonio River recorded by the DJI Fly app on my iPhone.

Every time you post something about this, that 1000 bucks is sounding cheaper
and cheaper. Maybe when I have more time on my hands...

I have been having more fun with drone photography/videography since I got this DJI Mavic Air 2 on a wild hair whim back in May. I just wanted to try something different that I had never done before. I was prepared to walk away from it if the novelty wore off, but I am thoroughly hooked.

Now I just have to polish up my production values with commentary& muzak.

I'm with you all the way on this, Bill.

I DO have the time - so perhaps I will! ;-)

Is there any specialist drone Usenet group of which you are aware?
